PATERSON, JUN 04 - The city of Paterson, the most Peruvian city in the United States, will serve as the setting for the celebrations for the Bicentennial of the Independence of Peru according to announced Peru to the World Expo (PTWE), the institution in charge of organizing the activity. The commemoration will have as a guest of honor the Senator of the United States, Robert “Bob” Menéndez, and as a central point the unveiling of a bust of the martyr of Peruvian independence, Micaela Bastidas. In celebrating its 10th anniversary, PTWE will present a special program that includes the recognition of Peruvians who have excelled in the United States, through the years in different areas.

Likewise, there will be a tasting of the world famous "Causa Peruana", the traditional Creole dish linked to the patriotism of Peruvians. All this, accompanied by an exhibition of Peruvian dances, together with the delicious "Anticucho", another gastronomic delight from the Andean country. "We will have the participation of the Top Peruvian Chefs Association as a tribute to Micaela Bastidas, an important fih of our independence," said Melvi Dávila, president of PTWE that, every year since 2012, carries out the main Peruvian gastronomic activity in the city from New York, with a masterful presentation of internationally recognized Andean and Creole cuisine. "During this decade, we have had the important support of Mincetur, Promperú, Sierra Exportadora, as well as the assistance of various mayors as Mayor of New York City, including the current president, Bill De Blasio, Mayor of the city of Paterson, Andre Sayegh" said Dávila. "We also received the support of the Consulate General of Peru in New York and Consulate General of Peru in New Jersey, in alliance with different entities, such as Goya Foods, Peru Import and the San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL)." Micaela Bastidas Puyucahua, Túpac Amaru's wife, symbolizes the soul of the revolution of 1780 and, in a superlative degree, the participation of women in the liberation of America. She died tortured, along with her husband, for refusing to reveal information about the rebel army. "We believe that our community will join in this recognition of a woman who contributed to forge the independence of our beloved Peru," Dávila finally said.
