“My primary goal as an artist is to bridge the gap between the classic American soul I fell in love with while growing up in the US and authentic Latin-Merengue sounds essential to my Dominican Caribbean heritage. In the process my goal is always to present myself as a modern elegant, soulful and energetic female voice on stage, while recording or on tour.” – Zeitlin Perez
Zeitlin Perez was born and raised in New York, New York. She’s an accomplished vocalist with an incredible taste for diverse music. The Dominican songster became fascinated by music as a toddler. Her mother took noticed when she would put on performances at home. At the age of four she sang Corazon de Piedra (Heart of rock), by Lucia Mendez. It was then her mother realized the passion her daughter possessed for the arts. Perez’s mother submitted her to many pageants where she would be able to display her talent and win. This naturally led her to her journey in becoming an entertainer.
As time progressed her love for entertaining and singing became apparent. She became a member of the Young People’s Chorus of NYC. She was part of an all female bachata group, Syrenz and joined an all female R&B group, Diamond. Her ability to switch up the genres is what sets her apart from many. During all this Zeitlin found the time to go to school and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from Manhattan College. There she gained some Media Experience from working as a producer to hosting shows, she got a glimpse of what the other side was, making her a versatile artist.
Zeitlin has performed for Merengue Pioneers, Miriam Cruz, Rubby Perez, Johnny Ventura, The Henry Jimenez band, but her main highlight was being on tour with Grammy award winning Dominican-Merengue singer, Milly Quezada also known as the Merengue queen. This engagement was supposed to be a one-time performance and ironically ended up to be an eight-year gig. During this period she had various opportunities to sing with exceptional (national and international) vocalists. She also performed for many events such as People en Español’s 50 most beautiful people in 2003. Working with idol, Quezada reassured her love for music. Perez considered her role model as a second mother while on tour, she was her “mom on stage”. She admired Milly’s talent and absorbed an abundant amount of pointers from the star. Till this day her relationship with the singer remains sincere, supportive and inspiring.
Zeitlin’s range of music varies from R&B, Salsa, Spanish rock - but her heart will always be Merengue! She wants to follow the footsteps of Milly Quezada, but also be able to sing in both worlds (English and Spanish). Zeitlin loves to incorporate a little bit of everything but never wants to forget where she came from or who she is. She admires the cross over career of Marc Anthony. No matter how successful he got, he always stayed true to his roots. Perez, Sees herself singing in both worlds. Performing is home to her, its where she is capable to step outside of her own element, representing the new generation. Her ultimate dream is to represent Latinos as one. Perez respects all of the elements of music. She cherishes the universality of Music. Through her voice and words she wants to convey those emotions that everyone can listen and relate to.
